BOMA BESt (Building Environmental Standards) is a national program launched in 2005 by BOMA Canada to address an industry need for realistic standards for energy and environmental performance of existing buildings based on accurate, independently verified information.
Today, BOMA BESt has evolved from simply identifying key best practices to providing common standards; an array of on-line assessment tools; and a four-level performance certification program.
The certification is available for five specific building types: offices, shopping centres, open air retail plazas, light industrial buildings, and multi-unit residential buildings.
In January 2012, BOMA Canada announced the official launch of BOMA BESt Version 2, the latest iteration of this popular program. BOMA BESt Version 2 features a host of additional user-friendly features, updated questions and energy and water benchmarks in the building assessment surveys to reflect evolving industry best practices, and the addition of a survey for multi-unit residential buildings.
On June 3rd, 2014 the BOMA BESt questionnaire (for all modules) will undergo some changes thanks to a new process called the Technical Clarification Request (TCR) process. These modifications will impact all users of the tool currently completing the assessment. For an overview of all changes, please read the BOMA BESt Report newsletter. For more details on each TCR, their implications on your assessment and the TCR process itself, please visit the new TCR section of the website.
